A Brief Java Tale

0

Musician Greg Greenway performed at the Java Barn in the early nineties during its pilot stages. Greenway began his career in Richmond, Virginia before moving to Boston to capitalize on its expansive and influential folk scene. When asked to recall his concert at SLU, he replied with this statement:

“I loved playing there. I still tell the story of two full blood Mohawks who did my radio interview there. I had a St. Lawrence football jersey for years. No one has those colors, brown and [scarlet]. Best cafeteria food of any college anywhere.

I played a song called “Ghost Dance” about photos from Wounded Knee, and halfway through realized that I might have offended [the interviewers]. So, when I finished the song, I apologized, saying I hope I had not offended them. They sat very quietly and then one said, “We heard your heart.”I never forgot that. People need to hear each other’s hearts these days.”
