Theme House Corner: Dana Dining Cottage
Do you live for chicken tenders and sauces? Do you like melted ice cream, questionable fish dishes? Surprisingly delicious black-bean burgers? Strange pasta salads? Then you’ve come to the right place: Dana Dining Cottage has all these things and more!
After this fall’s adjustments to meal plan options, Dana Dining hall was converted to a full-time living community, as students felt they were practically living there already. As SLU’s most recent theme-cottage, the living spaces of Dana Dining Cottage are limited, but cozy. Our residents have three incredible options to choose from: they can curl up in the slightly overheated booths or in the elegant faculty-staff dining room (that one has chandeliers!). Or, if they’re the sporty type, they can set up shop in the center of attention in “The Pit”, featuring TV amenities! Of course, our new home is open to the entirety of campus, as well as the community, faculty, and sometimes their kids. It’s always weird to see the kids. Regardless, the familiar smell of fried-food and the comforting din of campus munching and chatting has become the norm.
Located across from the beloved student center, Dana Dining Cottage offers three fabulous meals a day, seven days a week! Some campus favorites are tenders and sauces night, pasta-sauté, stir-fry, and, of course, our famous brunch. From mac-and-cheese bites to jalapeno poppers to the do-it-yourself waffles, our humble abode should be awarded five Michelin stars. Our favorite event, however, happens to be Canadian Thanksgiving. The famous, festive meal features excessive amounts of poutine, turkey, and potatoes. We’re always forced to scrape dried potatoes and gravy out of the carpeting, but, hey, it’s a labor of love.
As we grow not only as a dining option but also a theme house, watch out for some exciting events! We are planning some great things in the coming semesters, so keep your eyes peeled and your stomachs hungry! We’re planning on hosting special guests like Gordon Ramsey, Emril Lagassi, and Rachel Ray. In addition, we hope to start hosting SLU Iron Chef competitions and tournaments, in which the winner is forced to become Dana’s head chef for the rest of their four years here at SLU! Doesn’t that sound fun? Other upcoming competitions include longest Dana-sit, best iced-coffee formula, most impressive salad, and which student athlete can drink the most blue Powerade.
Keep an eye out for all these exciting events and more, and don’t forget to stop by three times a day to fuel up! And, don’t forget: Dana is love, Dana is life.
