CGC Potluck Concludes D&I Week
This Friday, March 7, the Common Grounds Connections Club will host a multicultural potluck at the International House (I-House). This potluck marks the end of Diversity and Inclusion Week. The event is organized in collaboration with the I-House and the Greenhouse, with food contributions from multiple other organizations across campus. Attendees will bring in dishes from their respective cultures, creating an opportunity for everyone try out foods they may not have tasted before.
The organizers hope that through this dinner, students take the initiative to come together as a community to enjoy various delicious dishes from around the world. “I love the idea of creating a shared space where people from all around can come together and bond over something mutual like food,” said Wande Balele ’27, the president of CGC. According to Balele, the purpose is to have students relax and forge cross-cultural connections in a safe and comfortable space.
The multicultural potluck is one of the major events organized by CGC this semester, with an expected attendance of about 60 people. The event will be an opportunity for students to come together and have meaningful exchanges at the dinner table. “This is a chance for us to create a unique atmosphere of cultural exchange and understanding,” said Sharia Neha ’26.
Neha hopes that this event can stand as an example of the unique successes Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (D.E.I) initiatives can achieve. She believes that through actively participating in these events, students are consciously becoming more inclusive and attuned to working through potential differences.
As college campuses across the nation reel in the uncertainties resulting from President Trump’s executive orders on rolling back D.E.I. initiatives, students are more purposeful about showing what they can do with Diversity and Inclusion. The CGC Potluck is no exception, with many hoping to highlight the lasting connections that students from different backgrounds are capable of making.
