The One Where Ralph Lauren Celebrates “Friends” Fashion

0

This past Sunday marked the 25th anniversary of the premiere of “Friends.” The TV show, which premiered in 1994, is one of the most popular American shows to date. It follows the seemingly-perfect lives of six friends who attempt to get by (and somehow always do) in New York City. With 10 seasons, the show is still seen in media today in clothing printed with the popular title-sequence font, or memes inspired by the six iconic characters.

It comes as no surprise that Ralph Lauren, the brand that character Rachel Green worked at throughout the seasons, released a line of clothing dedicated to the show. These pieces exhibit the 90s style that never seems to fully fade out of fashion’s horizon. Titled “The One Where They Wear Ralph Lauren,” the clothing line’s story features five “scenes” inspired by the show’s most frequented sets. The first scene features a group of models drinking coffee in the infamous Central Perk cafe. The second shows two models lounging in velvet suits in a replica of

Monica, another character’s  apartment. Ralph Lauren didn’t forget the out-of-service taxi with scene three, where the six models recline against the taxi on a darkened foggy street. The six models also are shown in front of the title-sequence’s fountain. Lastly, a couple is seen on the balcony featured during the show’s romantic plotlines, or when the group of friends witnesses the unfortunate NYC reality of being able to see into your neighbor’s windows. The group display the clothing pieces, doused in shades of black, white, and grey to show the classic NYC uniform. With textures of leather, velvet, corduroy, and cable-knit, it is difficult not to say “how you doin?” to these pieces.

Despite being a bit pricey for most, 74 items are perfect for classic 90s inspiration.

Rachel Green’s style seems to be the inspiration for most of the collection. She was the most fashion focused, and eventually lands herself a job at Ralph Lauren as a buyer. Ralph Lauren himself even appeared in season six, episode eight. Anyone who fawned over Rachel’s style during the show is sure to love the pleated leather or cheetah-print mini skirts, and the timeless black turtlenecks. However, if you’re a quirky Phoebe fan then you might enjoy the cheetah print coat, or the purple sweaters. And a reserved Monica fan is sure to love the black blazers and sleek white button downs. Even though the line is mostly women’s clothing, there are sweaters and sweater-vests reminiscent of Ross and Chandler’s style.

If this line didn’t make you want to rewatch the show, you can get more inspiration from the full story at ralphlauren.com. No matter if you enjoy the show or not, these will make you say, “Could I be any more stylish?”.
