Everyone knows that lunch can be lonely sometimes. It happens to the best of us, with our hectic class schedules and various extracurriculars. Sometimes there simply isn’t time for a quality meal with friends. That is, there wasn’t, until the SLU Lunch Club was created this semester.
A club that started as a joke between friends has now become a way for the community to come together for quality lunch between classes. Students participate in the club across campus, from Sparticus to good ol’ Dana. With 15 members and counting, the club is looking to expand.
According to Aidan Callahan ’20, the club is open to “anyone who likes lunch”. The only thing this club membership demands is that you document your experience.
So, when you are grabbing a bite with friends, make sure you snap a photo and send it on to the SLC to be featured on their Instagram.
With no set meetings or designated eating areas, SLC members can eat wherever they want. In the words of Dylan DeTurk ’20 “ We don’t care if you eat with us, we just want you to eat lunch.” So even if you’re traveling, eating alone or somewhere far away, you can still be a part of this club.
Since the club is still in its beginning stages, any member can be on the E-board. Deturk assures us “ anyone who joins gets a position.” There is only one catch-your title must be unique.
Among other positions, the club has inducted their Pirate King, Head of Security, Executive Producer, and Ghost Hunter (along with his assistant). If you are a freshman or have struggled to grab at a superior position in another club, this may be the club for you.
SLU Lunch Club feels that it’s time to spread the word about what they have created so that everyone can enjoy a good lunch.
Callahan feels that lunch is underappreciated as a meal. “Breakfast is hyped up, but people tend to forget about lunch,” he says.
