SLU Connect: A Student’s Perspective

0

You’ve read last week’s Career Corner and you’ve seen the emails. So yes, you know that applications for SLU Connect Boston are now open.

We can tell you all day just how incredible the SLU Connect program is, but there’s no better way to learn about the experience than from a student who was part of last year’s SLU Connect Boston program.

Zhuoer Li ’23 came to Boston with us last year. She has provided us with some thoughts about her experience below. Spoiler alert: she got a lot out of it. So much so that she applied for our San Francisco program and will be coming with us to the Bay Area over Spring Break.

Here’s more from Zhuoer:

“A few days before boarding the flight to the United States from my home country, China, I remember having a conversation with my parents about the exciting journey ahead of me. I began the conversation by saying that while I have some confidence in performing well academically and having fun in college, I have no idea how to survive the cold weather in Canton or what I will do after college. My parents gave me two pieces of advice that I could only appreciate now: to follow my heart and seek guidance from people who have been down that road.

This advice motivated me to seize the opportunity to attend the SLU Connect Boston Program. In Boston, we spent three days participating in career programming, networking opportunities, and multiple roundtable discussions on a variety of topics such as finance, real estate, non-profit, and advertising, as well as one-on-one visits with alumni. I gained insight into the culture and real-life dynamics of different industries and built personal relationships with alumni. Everyone I met there was friendly, encouraging, and eager to help. It’s hard not to feel a sense of responsibility to give back to St. Lawrence after receiving so much genuine support from the alumni. I would encourage anyone, especially international students like me, who might not have a professional network in the U.S., to apply for the program.”

So, sophomores, juniors and seniors … what are you waiting for? The application deadline is Friday, March 17 at 4 pm. Scan the QR code to apply on Handshake, or search for “SLU Connect Boston” in the jobs tab on Handshake to find the application online today!
