As the days begin to dwindle in fall and temperatures start to drastically drop, it’s smart to think ahead towards the awkward transitional season here at SLU.

What to wear when the snow hasn’t fallen yet but your platform sneakers just aren’t keeping your feet as warm as they should be?

Or, if you’re feeling uneasy about a specific pattern this season, you shouldn’t be!

Incorporating florals and fun prints into your everyday wear is a total hit this season.

Layering is a student’s best bet when it comes to tackling this season. Taking a unique twist on a basic turtleneck with adding a fun graphic tee over top.

Also, adding a blazer or button up under a puffer or overcoat can be a cute way to show off different textures and styles all in one outing.

“Outfit layering is kind of like Tetris: Not every item of clothing is destined to fit together, but when you find a particular combination that does, it looks seamless and feels satisfying.

The real challenge doesn’t necessarily lie in determining a winning combination, however, but rather in determining a whole slew of them–enough to make the most of your wardrobe and prevent the often-inevitable turtleneck, pullover sweater, blazer rut.

It takes some experimentation to achieve, especially when you’re striving for that perfect ‘not too sparse, not too reminiscent of an abominable snowman’ middle ground,” writes Harling Ross, a Fashion Director and Brand Strategist at Man Repeller.

Another Fall trend that doesn’t seem to ever die is corduroy, as it acts like summer’s linen. The fabric just seems to give the perfect stretch and style for the brisk breeze while walking to class.

Corduroy can also be exchanged for something sleeker this season like suede or a subtle velvet. Comfy but chic pants are the perfect way to get by with a more laid-back crew neck or stylish sweatshirt.

If you are pondering what to wear when going out to on the town during these upcoming chilly weekends, a cool cardigan might be the move.

“For years cardigans have been synonymous with “stuffy”—and definitely not an item of clothing you’d think of as trendy.

But in 2019 they’ve turned into a somewhat risqué statement piece. (Really!)

Blame Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Katie Holmes, and dozens of fashion people for styling their cardigans as sexy tops, and forever changing the way we look at this fall essential” explains Tara Gonzalez, an editor for Glamour.

Either way when going out make sure to bundle up with a plethora of layers because no matter how heavy the “beer blanket” you claim to be wearing is, cold and flu season are rapidly on the rise and stops for no one.
