WiFight 2: Electric Boogaloo

0

All right, here we go again. I really didn’t want to do this a second time but my hand henceforth hath been forced. For those who haven’t read the first iteration of WiFight, I covered the abysmal internet connection that is plaguing Sykes, causing the residents headaches of uncountable quantity. I thought that getting the information out would elicit some sort of corrective action but alas nothing has changed. If I am being completely honest with you, dear readers, the issue has gotten significantly worse!

Every night when the clock strikes 10 p.m., the internet goes out. Sometimes for a couple seconds, but most times it’s out for multiple hours. And that is the predictable pattern. Sometimes the internet goes out during the middle of the day. In the digital age this is virtually unacceptable. We as students who rely on the internet to get our degrees shouldn’t have to worry about turning in an assignment late because the internet dying. I was nice in my first piece, but the proverbial gloves need to come off now. It has come to my attention that there is a situation in the IT department. I am not totally sure what it is, but I can assure you that I will be looking into it to see if I can shed some light on why the people of Sykes are suffering.

And we are suffering: for the last few weeks I’ve overheard the irritated curses of fellow residents. At first, these outages were so sporadic that I blamed it on the weather and other external factors but recently my housemates have been cursing out the WiFi as well. While this felt super validating that I wasn’t going insane, it was also disheartening to hear that this is a building-wide phenom. The irritation hit its peak last week when a movie night that had been planned for a few weeks was ruined due to an internet outage that lasted until till the early hours of the morning. My disappointment even after the email that they would investigate the problem is immeasurable. I’ve heard from friends of mine in Kirk that the internet there has been poor as well, so I can say I’m absolutely stumped on what is wrong. While the intricacies of technology are foreign to me, I will again implore the people in charge to please do something about the internet connection because keeping the student body in the dark about what is going on isn’t going to be good in the grand scheme of things.
