What’s Brewin’ in the North Country?

The St.  Lawrence Brewery opened its doors back in 2013 and they have been bringing craft beer to the North Country ever since.  Ken Hebb is the proprietor of the Brewery and he also owns the Blackbird Café and the Parkview, two other local favorites.  The company has four standards that they sell all year round: the Maple Porter, a smooth rich porter that this reporter finds to be remarkably rich and filling.  The Skinny Dipper, a refreshing India pale ale that is perfect to drink after any physical activity.  The Ruby Canoe, a slightly hoppy North Country bock and is this reporters favorite.  The Barn Stormer, a crisp bohemian pilsner that will leave any drinker feeling rejuvenated.  They are all brewed and canned at the Brewery in Canton but are sold all over the North Country.

Besides these four standards the St. Lawrence Brewery also creates seasonal beers.  Their Indian Summer lager, which is remarkably light, as been a favorite this past season, and is now on its last legs.  Hurry down to the Brewery this weekend if you have not tried it yet.  Indian Summer was brewed with local strawberries and honey, a delicious, sunny combination.   

Indian Summer was recently replaced by the Brewery’s new seasonal brew, their incredibly autumnal Sasquash Dunkel, a dark lager brewed with local acorn squash and spices.  The Brewery also has another new beer on tap this fall, the Whitewater Wet Hop, a wet hopped IPA.  If the promise of two new beers on tap is not exciting enough got you, rumor has it that they are now working on a new invention in the brew house, a coffee porter which will be made with locally roasted beans.

The St. Lawrence Brewery recently hosted a Halloween event, “Brews and Boos,” which I hope many St. Lawrence students were able to attend.  If you were too busy to go do not fret, there are many more events happening there in the near future, including some “Movember Mustache Shenanigans.”  At this event, the Brewery will be revealing their Rhubarb Sour, a beer they have been saving and aging for the past five months.

On a weekly basis the St. Lawrence Brewery Taproom is open Wednesday though Sunday, there is a weekly Trivia Night every Wednesday, and Brewery tours on Fridays.  The St. Lawrence Brewery is located at 19 Commerce Lane in Canton and everyone should head down there this week for a pint.  I promise you will not regret it.brewery pic
