If you’re looking to serve your community, help those in need, or just something to do over spring break, then the alternative spring break trip to St. Francis Inn in Philadelphia is certainly something to consider!
St. Francis Inn is a soup kitchen in the Kensington section of Philadelphia that serves up to 400 meals a day. Guests are seated and served by the volunteers in a restaurant style setting. “Since the early 2000’s, I’ve had the pleasure to be a part of the trip,” says trip co-leader Joseph Tebo.
Though co-leader Ashlee Downing has not been on this specific trip, she argues that “going on an Alternative Spring Trip can be life changing. It challenges you to step outside your comfort zone, think past your own stereotypes and to build friendship with students you may not have otherwise gotten to know.”
Other volunteer opportunities include picking up donations around the Philadelphia area, along with helping at a Woman’s Center and Thrift Shop. “If you are looking for a rewarding experience, this trip is for you,” says Tebo.
An informational meeting will be held on Monday January 26th at 7:00pm in the Student Center, room 336. The trip will be during spring break, March 14th to March 21st and costs $125.00.
