Athlete of the Week: Lily Sullivan
When did you start playing tennis?
I started playing tennis for fun when I was in sixth grade. I started playing competitively my freshman year of high school.
Why St. Lawrence to continue your athletic career?
I chose St. Lawrence because I loved how close the team was when I visited. Everyone was super welcoming and I loved how strong the sense of community was. I also wanted a smaller school because that is where I thought I would thrive most academically and athletically.
How has the team been practicing with COVID restrictions?
We have been practicing 3 times a week with COVID restrictions. We have to wear a mask while practicing and are limited to a hour and a half of practice time. I have found that this shorter practice time has made our team more efficient with the time we have on court.
What’s one thing you would tell others about playing a collegiate sport?
Playing a collegiate sport is such a unique experience that I would never give up. Having my team as my second family is such a strong support system and is really helpful when transitioning into college life.
What’s been your favorite part about St. Lawrence so far?
My favorite part about slu so far is playing in my first few collegiate tennis matches. One of my favorite memories was at my first collegiate tennis match on parents weekend my freshman year. I had my friends, parents, and teammates in the stands watching and cheering me on to win the first match of my collegiate tennis career. Besides tennis, I have loved meeting and becoming friends with all sorts of different people from all over the country and the world.
