Naomi Osaka Cruises to Australian Open Victory
At just 23 years of age, Naomi Osaka once again proved why she is the next young female superstar to command the game of tennis. Coming into the tournament ranked #3 in the world, she has the confidence and swagger to dissect any opponents’ strengths and has an extremely versatile skill set in her bag. She carries herself as a humble and graceful person off the court, but once the first serve is hit, she plays with no mercy and will humiliate you if you’re not ready. Her combination of touch, ball placement, and strong mental focus are incredibly impressive, yet her no-nonsense aggressive style of play is really what separates her from the pack. That’s why there’s little surprise that she is already a 2X U.S Open Champion (2018, 2020) and 2X Australian Open Champion (2019, 2021).
In this year’s Aussie Open, one of the four major tournaments on the pro tennis calendar, Osaka had all of her elements firing as she was only forced to a third set once throughout the entire tournament. She breezed by the first three rounds, only losing 13 total games in 3 matches! In the Semi-Final vs the all-time great Serena Williams, Osaka showed incredible composure for her age especially considering that Serena was her idol growing up. There was no one on the planet happier for Osaka than Serena herself as the two share an incredibly respected relationship. In the Final against Jennifer Brady, Osaka won 4/5 breakpoints which ultimately led to an impressive (6-4, 6-3) victory to be hailed champion of the 2021 Australian Open.
After this impressive statement tournament win, Osaka will look to do damage in the next major tournament which is the 2021 French Open in May. Osaka excels on hard courts which are both played on in the U.S and Australian Open but there’s no doubt that she could win any type of tournament for years and years to come.
