When did you start alpine skiing?

Being the youngest of 3 girls in my family, I was put into “ski day care” while my parents took my two older sisters skiing onto the mountain. I learned how to ski at 18 months and ever since then have fallen in love with the sport, the opportunities it has provided me, and the people I have been able to meet!

Why St. Lawrence to continue your athletic career?

I chose St. Lawrence to pursue my collegiate athletic career for the access to phenomenal training facilities, strong and positive team environment, and the ability to be involved on a campus that provided me with an identity that was outside of my sport. The dynamic education in and out of the classroom settings was another foundational reason why I chose St. Lawrence as well!

What’s your best advice for beginner skiers?

My best piece of advice for beginner skiers is to have your fair share of face plants and yard sales, but to get back up and ski down because you will have friends/ family at the bottom of the mountain smiling. The chairlift rides and ability to be connected outside with your family and friends are worth any initial discomforts!

How has the ski team been practicing with the COVID restrictions?

Only a portion of our team is on campus right now, so we have been having weekly zoom calls to keep updated with our team, what our season is going to look like, and check in with one another! We start practicing as a team the first week of November but throughout the beginning of the semester, we have been doing social distant captain’s practices each week to prepare for when we are able to practice our sport soon!

What’s been your favorite part about St. Lawrence?

My favorite part about St. Lawrence has been the unique perspective and opportunities I have been given that have challenged me into the student, athlete and leader that I have become. The ability to develop meaningful relationships with staff and faculty in areas that I am interested in is invaluable. It is something that I will take with me once I graduate from St. Lawrence.

What’s your favorite thing to do here on campus?

My favorite thing to do here on campus is to watch and support my peers perform and succeed in whichever area of campus that is important to them- from athletics, clubs, community service, artistic performance and anything in between! I also LOVE long dana sits!
