How long have you been playing field hockey? How did you get into the sport?
My mom got me into a summer camp in the sixth grade, I played for my middle school team and never let go of the stick!
What made you want to join the team at SLU?
Just the team support, love and passion we all have for the game, and being able to have the opportunity to find some soul sisters. It doesn’t get any better than that.
What has been your favorite experience on the team so far?
Winning the PINK breast cancer awareness home games every October and being able to ring the bell. Such a satisfying feeling!
What makes SLU’s field hockey team so unique?
We are coming from different field hockey experiences, high schools, states, we are all different heights, positions, even studies, yet somehow we manage to click on the field and put it all together. It’s because we care, we care about the sport and we care about each other and that’s what matters. That is what makes us unique.
What is your competition/practice schedule like?
We play about 15 hours of practice a day, then two games a week. Schedule is online!
Do you have any pre-competition rituals?
We get into a huddle and whisper to a scream “she who will, cannot be beat, let’s go” and it’s so inspiring. We run onto the field right after and begin!
What do you do to celebrate a win?
We run to the bell in front of Newell and cheer and chant and all get on the bell to ring it! It is so fun, all of our fans come over and take pictures and congratulate us. Essentially all of our excitement and leftover energy is used to run over to the ring the bell. It is oh so fun.
Who would you say is your biggest fan?
Holy moly well this is hard! Yes, my parents are my biggest supporters, they come to 75% of the games, but I always look forward to pep up texts from my dad before the game and our one-on-one conversations after as to what went well and what didn’t. His patience, commitment, and support is endless and I can’t help but be appreciative!
