Following a successful end to the 2018 season of the PGA Tour, Tiger Woods is easing his way back into the 2019 professional season. At the end of last season, Woods had his 80th win on the PGA Tour during the Tour Championship. This is the last tournament of every season on tour and also ends the FedEx Cup. This is especially impressive considering the field is composed of the 30 best golfers of the season.
After such an astounding win, Woods has earned some valuable time off. Following his many surgeries, Woods is very careful to stay as healthy as possible. One wrong move could potentially take him out of the game for years, or even the rest of his golfing career. This would be a major blow considering how he has spent more than a few seasons injured or completely absent. He has stated before that he not only wants to stay healthy to remain competitive on the PGA Tour, but he also wants to remain healthy so he can be an active member of his family. His children are very important to him and he strives to be an excellent father.
It was certainly notable that Woods missed the Tournament of Champions at the beginning of the year. This tournament is open to all players who have won on the PGA Tour. However, Tiger returned this past weekend to the Farmers Insurance Open. He placed T20 with a score of 10 under par for the tournament, although it appears Woods will be more selective about his tournaments in the future.
Woods is only two PGA Tour wins away from Sam Snead’s record of 82 and only four major wins away from Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18. Many fans are eager to see if he can reach one or both of these records this season. It would firmly secure him as the greatest golfer of all time.
