LeBron James “Taking His Talents to Golden State” in the 2018 Season
The NBA World was shaken to its core late Tuesday night when ESPN’s Brian Windhorst dropped a bombshell report, outlining LeBron James’s alleged plan for this upcoming off-season to join the Golden State Warriors. The report states that LeBron “plans to take his talents to the Bay Area,” where he will join a team many already consider to be the most dominant force in NBA history and features four future Hall-of-Famers. While this won’t be James’s first time exiting Cleveland, and he has fulfilled his promise to bring a trophy to Northeastern Ohio, Cavaliers fans are outraged to learn he is joining the team they have faced off against in the past three NBA Finals.
The report states that James first considered his move to Golden State following the 2015 Finals when the Cavaliers fell to the Warriors 4-2, and when James, despite a superhuman effort that saw him post nearly 36 points a game, suffered his fourth career Finals loss. His resolve to join the Warriors was weakened briefly the following year when he and his teammates were able to take down the Warriors in an epic seven-game Finals series. However, the urge to move out West came quickly back when Kevin Durant opted to join the Warriors that following off-season, handing James and the Cavaliers yet another Finals loss this past June.
While Warriors fans are rejoicing, the rest of the NBA world is concerned how James’s joining a team many already consider to be overpowered could impact the competitive balance of the league. Commissioner Adam Silver addressed the situation early Wednesday morning in a press conference, stating “While we respect every players ability to choose their own destiny during free agency, I mean c’mon, its kind of bull**** that LeBron’s doing this.” In an unprecedented move, Silver then proceeded to light a cigarette while still at the podium, stating “I mean the Harlem Globetrotters have been around since like, the 1920’s, and some people still watch them, right? I don’t know if you wanna watch this season then watch, spoiler alert, the f****** Warriors are going to win again.” Silver could reportedly be heard muttering under his breath, “I am so going to lose this job,” as he made his way backstage.
TNT addressed the issue through a press release, stating “While we will continue to broadcast the NBA across all platforms, we will only be showing Warriors games, because honestly all the other ones are just a waste of time. The time we previously spent broadcasting other NBA games will instead be dedicated to doing what we normally do, showing even more re-runs of 2012’s “Battleship” and other terrible high-budget action movies.”
While the news is still fresh, the NBA world is abuzz with rumors that James Harden, Russell Westbrook, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Anthony Davis, among others, have already notified their teams that they too are demanding trades to Golden State. Vegas odds-makers have decided to no longer take any bets on future NBA seasons, stating “really no point.”
