9th Annual Great Mount Titus Wicked Weekend at SLU
March 1-3 marked the Ninth “Great Mount Titus Wicked Weekend,” with the event being organized by the Outing Club. The O.C. began selling tickets and t-shirts in the Student Center early last week and sold as many as a thousand tickets in two days.
The festivities officially started with a showing of The Game of Gnar, a film about a fun ski game, Thursday night in the Winston Room. On Friday evening, students made their way to the Quad in bright, eighties ski wear to watch or participate in the kickoff rail jam on campus. Anyone with skis or a snowboard was encouraged to send it down the rails and perform tricks for the energetic audience.
The experience was enhanced by party music being played through large speakers and hot dogs grilled for hungry skiers and crowd-goers. The snowfall that day added to the celebration, which some called a “Titus miracle.” O.C. member, Jay Kraunelis ’18, explains that his favorite part of Titus is the rail jam because “It’s a great time for all skiers and riders to showcase their abilities while the crowd and fellow riders hype you up to try tricks that you’ve never done before.”
The following morning students with tickets loaded onto twenty school buses to be brought to Titus Mountain Family Ski Center in Malone, as driving to the mountain was not permitted due to safety concerns. The O.C. rented out the ski lodge, where food and alcohol, for those 21 or older, was available for purchase. Three music acts were performed throughout the afternoon, which included: Sonic Steve and Adventure Dog, The Pyros, and DJ Parker Densmore.
When Titus-goers were not dancing inside, they were either hitting the slopes or hanging out with friends outside of lodge by the fire pit. The buses departed back to campus around 5pm, a time when many started posting pictures from the weekend across social media, making use of the popular Huji Cam app to apply fun, retro effects and filters to photos in effort to highlight the unique SLU experience that is Titus.
