Athlete of the Week: Kai Richter
When did you start skiing?
I started skiing when I was one years old and began racing competitively when I was 12. I skied for Mansfield Nordic Club growing up and competed for BlackJack Ski Team in western Canada during high school.
Why did you choose to attend St. Lawrence?
St. Lawrence had the small classroom setting I was looking for, and everyone I met on my recruiting trip was extremely kind and welcoming.
How has the team been practicing with COVID restrictions?
Fortunately, Nordic skiing is an outside individual sport, so we have been able to do lots of quality traditional training. We have just had to focus on skiing further apart from one another and wearing masks.
What’s one thing you’ve enjoyed about playing a collegiate sport?
I appreciate the balance playing a collegiate sport has brought me. It is much easier to focus on academics when you can take your mind off it every day for a substantial amount of time.
What’s been your favorite part about St. Lawrence so far?
The community and accepting atmosphere are my favorite part about St. Lawrence. Any Laurentian is a friend of mine.
