Introducing an Inclusive SLU Bible Study Club

0

Our club was founded during the 2018-2019 academic year as a women’s study for the season of Lent. The following year, we evolved to Progressive Christian Club so as to remove any gender barriers implicated in the previous name. This opened up the club to the entire campus.

Once again, this year, we have restructured our club to adapt to the COVID-19 pandemic and changed our name to SLU Bible Study. We made this decision because Progressive Christianity references a specific theological approach. We want to remain welcoming and inclusive to all those who would like to discuss, explore, or learn more about their faith and spiritual journey.

In the past we’ve engaged in meditations, scripture readings, Emmaus Walks, watched and discussed Christian media, and held an overnight vigil in the chapel around Easter. This year, our meetings generally consist of a Christian meditation, scripture reading, and discussion. We’ve also watched and discussed the first season of The Chosen – a new crowdfunded series on the life and ministry of Jesus.

Coronavirus has affected each and every one of our lives to differing degrees over the past year. In these times which are so often labeled “unprecedented,” faith is incredibly important. Our meetings provide a safe space to discuss one’s faith, ask questions, and listen to others’ experiences. We intend to make our club a setting in which we can meet people where they are in their faith journey and support them in finding what makes sense to them.

We hope you’ll join us on Zoom Mondays at 5:30pm!
