Hey all! I’m Kari LaPierre, I’m a senior house member of the Outing Club, your phriendly neighborhood outdoor theme house. Our big green house with the red roof across from the library, 58 Park Street, is home to 24 quirky outdoor enthusiasts. I’m here to tell you a little bit about the history of our house and how you can get involved in the OC!
The Outing Club is the oldest student-run organization on campus, which was founded in 1937. Our mission is to bring St. Lawrence students to experience the many great outdoor activities the North Country and beyond has to offer! We host many classic events that Laurentians through the ages look back on with fondness; Peak Weekend and Titus being two of our most popular and beloved. Almost every day we send out information about upcoming trips to our email list (which you can sign up for on SLUWIRE). Camping, hiking, paddling, skiing, mountain biking; you name it, we do it.
The average OC trip can range from a short day-hike up nearby Mt. Arab or skiing at Whiteface, to longer trips over mid semester and spring break, such as skiing in the Chic Choc Mountains in Quebec and canoeing in Georgia! We even do trips where we cook dinner outside in cool places (such as making burritos while watching the sunset over Hart Falls). No matter your ability or experience level, we have trips to suit your every outdoor desire! Additionally, many of our trips are free or low cost, and we also sell discounted season passes to Whiteface, Gore, and Belleyre! When you get an email describing a trip that sounds interesting to you, respond for a spot (or for more information). It’s that easy!
