Bermuda Search Party Returns

Bringing the Energy to the Java Barn

For you, it may seem like another week and another Java article. But for me, this marks the first time I have written a Java article AND the first time I stayed through the entire show, start to finish.

Bermuda Search Party took to the stage of Java Barn last week. On stage was a trumpet and a trombone (the real stars of the show), a man in cutoff shorts and an “I [Heart] Crying” shirt, and a killer bassist.

The energy was unmatched. The music was easy to dance to and all-around uplifting. The band had chemistry. Watching the trombone player and the lead singer boogying back-to-back, cranking out tunes was a show in and of itself. “They have such an amazing stage presence, and they bring such good energy to Java,” said BSP superfan Callie Garnett ’27.

Honestly, the only Java show I enjoyed more than this was the 2023 Raft Day Moxie concert. Java, if you are reading this, please bring Moxie back. I’m begging you.

And hey, the band must have felt the good vibes from the crowd, too, because the next thing we knew, we were being serenaded with one of their new songs. “They are also super nice. They came out after the show, and a bunch of us got to chat with them,” mentioned Garnett.

Bermuda Search Party is a returning Java band, but I don’t remember them wowing me last year. Clearly, I didn’t stay long enough last year to get their full effect. However, this year, I did stay, and it was worth the lack of sleep that night. (But who has Friday classes anyway?) However, according to avid barricade-surfer Ellie Strade ’27, “They were just as good last year.”

My favorite part of the show, you ask? Well, that’s easy. It was when the lead singer had us all scream as loud as possible at the same time because of how crazy the world is right now. It was reminiscent of the Bella’s Bartok performance in Spring 2024. You don’t know pure, angsty catharsis until you’ve screamed at the top of your lungs in a sweaty, neon-lit garage with 69 other college students.

All in all, Strade put it best. “It was such an amazing Java show. Bermuda Search Party is so good and brought just the best vibes to Java.”
