Lady Gaga to Play Patrizia Reggiani
Movie producer Sir Ridley Scott announced that he is in the process of making a movie about the murder of Maurizio Gucci, the grandson of Gucci founder Guccio Gucci.
Perhaps the most well known celebrity anticipated to star in this film is Lady Gaga, who will play Patrizia Reggiani.
Scott, who also directed popular movies like “The Martian” and the TV show “The Good Wife,” will base the movie off the book “The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed” by Sara Gay Forden in 2000. Scott will also be working with his wife Giannina on the film.
While the film has yet to have be named, it has been rumored that it has been in the making for over a decade.
Lady Gaga, who has also released a makeup line and gone on several tours this year, will play the ex-wife of Maurizio Gucci.
Patrizia plotted the successful assassination of Maurizio, after his affair, in 1995. She was released from prison for good behavior in 2016 after spending 18 years incarcerated. In media at the time Patrizia was given names such as the ‘black widow’ hinting at a rather dark character role for Gaga.
Gaga’s career as an actress was sparked by her role as Ally in “A Star is Born.” Her role as Patrizia Reggiani will be her first since acting in “A Star is Born.”
Gaga also starred in shows such as “American Horror Story: Hotel,” and as a judge and coach in “The Voice.”
Though not much is known about the new movie currently, the brand Gucci and its signature red and green stripes is quite well known. Started in 1921, the Italian brand produces leather bags and goods, clothing, home decor, and makeup.
The company was founded by Guccio Gucci and is currently owned by Marco Bizzari. Guccio’s grandson Maurizio took over the company in 1983.
His murder in 1995 was said to have tarnished the company, but currently the company is quite popular once again, worth around $15 billion as of 2018.
This movie comes only 2 years after a season of ‘American Crime Story’ which was based off of the similar murder of Gianni Versace, the late owner of the brand Versace, by a serial killer in 1997.
Seeing the show’s success with an Emmy award hints at an audience’s similar interest in recounts of high-fashion murder stories.
Even though Scott’s movie has yet to have a release date, it will be interesting to see where Lady Gaga will take this role, and how the movie will portray this high-fashion true crime story.
