Career Corner: Saints Accelerate Downshifts

Over the Thanksgiving holiday, we reflected on how we could best deliver our Saints Accelerate program to those sophomores and juniors who are interested in spending some time having career conversations with our alumni.

We decided that the best path forward would be to move the program from mid-January, prior to the start of classes, to Winter Break (Feb 15-16). We know many students have plans for the January break, and we believe that Winter Break will be the perfect time to bring alumni back to campus to meet with you all to discuss potential career paths, networking and how to best present yourselves in an interview.

If this is the first you’ve heard of Saints Accelerate, have no fear! (Though you should spend a little time reading your emails and this column in The Hill News every week …)

Saints Accelerate is an interactive on-campus program for sophomores and juniors that will offer fun and engaging hands-on sessions with Laurentian alumni and parents.

Saints Accelerate programming is designed to help you: Discover and enhance your understanding of career paths and opportunities, strengthen networking abilities, confidence and connections, develop career-ready skills and competencies, build your narrative to articulate career interests and the value of your St. Lawrence experience

You will have several opportunities to speak with and learn from Laurentians working in a variety of fields over several sessions.

Some of the events/discussion topics for this year’s event include: Welcome Dinner with Volunteers, Crafting Your Story – Creating a Career Narrative, Preparing for the Interview and Articulating Your Story, Finding and Funding Internship Opportunities, Focused Small-Group Mentoring Conversations, Analyzing and Addressing Real-World Problems, Small Group Mock Interviews, Escape Room Networking Competition

Registration for Saints Accelerate is FREE and will close on Wednesday, Dec 13. The program will run from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb 15, and from 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb 16 (so you’ll still have the weekend to relax!).
