The Saint Lawrence Men’s Squash Team continued their 2015 success with a weekend sweep against the Tufts Jumbos and Western Ontario at the Robie Squash Center. Saturday was dedicated to six seniors on the men’s side, and they did not disappoint. Chris Fernandez, Anderson Good, Ibrahim Khan, Duncan Maxwell, Kyle Ogilvy, and Sebastian Riedelsheimer starred as the Saint’s improved to 11-1 on the season and a #2 ranking.
The first opponents of the day came all the way from Tufts University, the first time that the Jumbos have battled the Saints in Canton. At the top of the ladder, Ibrahim Khan took command of the number one spot and shut down Aditya Advani of Tufts in three games, scoring 11-8, 12-10, and 11-3. Captain Anderson Good took Braden Chuilli at number two with a commanding 3-0 win at 11-6, 11-7, and 11-3. Captain Duncan Maxwell emerged victorious at number three, winning the first two games 11-2 and 11-8, before opponent Sandeep Rishi retired due to a muscle strain. Captain Chris Fernandez won at number four with scores of 11-3, 11-2, and 11-5, while Sebastian Riedelsheimer beat Brandon Weiss at number five, only dropping 7 points throughout the match. Senior Seetreon Torres won 11-5, 11-3, and 11-6 at number seven, and Mateo Vargas, Ness Billamoria, Kingsley Amoako, and Michael Edson found success at six, eight, nine, and ten, respectively.
The Saints faced Western Ontario in the later afternoon matchup, the seniors stole stealing show once again. Khan, Fernandez, and Good led the way as all nine Saint competitors earned victories for the perfect 9-0 sweep. Khan moved down a few spots on the ladder against #16 ranked Western Ontario and showed off his high endurance levels. He defeated Matt Sharpe in three games, scoring 11-9, 11-1, and 11-6 at the number four spot. Good comfortably beat Krish Rana in three games at number five, scoring 11-5, 11-5, and 11-1. Chris Fernandez met Pierre Masuara at number eight, and the two battled in what was arguably the most exciting match of the day. Fernandez prevailed 14-12 in the opening game, setting the tone for an intense match-up, Fernandez had to work hard for the second game as well, and won 13-11. After two games, Masuara could not hold Fernandez off any more, and Chris took the final game 11-3 to seal the victory. Duncan Maxwell, Edger Zayas, Ahmed Bayoumy, Hussein Elrayes, Lockie Monroe, and Tim Lasusa all pitched in wins to complete the 2-0 Saturday, and 3-0 weekend as the Saints earned the win at Cornell on Friday.
