Chiefs, 49ers Prepare for Super Bowl

This year’s Super Bowl stage is set, and boy is this years match a good one. The high flying offense of the Kansas City Chiefs will be battling the San Francisco 49ers tough defense and break away running game. The Chiefs post-season journey has been a story of comebacks. After falling behind against to the Houston Texans in the Divisional round, Quarterback Patrick Mahomes led the charge scoring touchdowns on four straight possessions in less than six minutes. After trailing 24-0 at the end of the first quarter, the score at halftime was 28-24 Chiefs. By the time the game ended it was a 51-31 blowout victory. Last week after falling behind by 10 points to the Tennessee Titans, twice, Mahomes again the led the Chiefs on a comeback to be up 21-17 at halftime, with a final score of 35-24. These impressive showings continued to showcase what the Chiefs do is almost better than anybody in the NFL, and that’s score points. With last season’s hotshot 24 year old MVP at quarterback, one of the best tight ends in Travis Kelce, and a wide receiver core of: Tyreke Hill (4.34 40-yard dash speed), Sammy Watkins (4.43 speed), as well as rookie Mecole Hardman (4.33 speed), this Kansas City offense is pretty much unstoppable. They scored the second most points in the AFC conference, averaging over 28 points per game. With the best quarterback in the league (so it seems), one of the best two tight ends in the league, and a track team of wide receivers, this offense is looking to score points on a team that is their antithesis. The San Francisco 49ers post season journey can be accounted in one word, dominance. After crushing the Minnesota Vikings, after their surprise 27-10 win against the New Orleans Saints, they went on to obliterate the Green Bay Packers, 37-20. Neither team ever had a chance against these Niners who earned the number one seed in the NFC, and unlike the Baltimore Ravens, didn’t choke their season away. San Francisco’s offense ranked second in the league averaging almost 30 points per game, and ranked fourth in total yards per game. This team’s offensive strength comes from their rushing attack which ranked second behind Baltimore, for 144 yards per game. The real strength of this team, however; lies in their defense which was one of the best against the pass. Their defense allowed the fewest passing yards per game and has one of the best defensive fronts in the league, who totaled 48 sacks on the year as a team. With players like Jimmy Garoppolo, George Kittle (the best tight end in football), Richard Sherman (the best cornerback in football), and defensive front of: Nick Bosa, DeForest Buckner, Arik Armstead, and Dee Ford, and others makes this team just feel very complete. The coaching matchup is very similar to last years in that for KC you have Andy Reid, the 61-year-old offensive genius who is looking to win his first Super Bowl in his two decade long career. On the 49ers side you have the 40 year old Kyle Shanahan, who is looking to make amends for his time as the Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator in which the Patriots famously came from behind 28-3 in win back in 2017. This matchup of the best passing offense versus the best passing defense will hopefully be a more entertaining matchup than last year’s borefest. Right now the Chiefs are a thin one point favorite over the Niners, with the over-under at 54 points as of this writing. These are indicating what could a close, high scoring matchup in the NFL’s hundredth season finale.
