Saints Spring Sports Surge Into 2024 Postseason Play
As the 2024 spring season nears its end, SLU sports teams are either heading into the post-season or already finding success there. This year has been great for Saints sports, spanning through the fall, winter, and now spring seasons.
Jimmy King ’26 earned an individual Liberty League championship title for SLU Men’s Golf in a hotly contested matchup with two other competitors that went to tiebreakers. The team earned second place overall in the competition, scoring 873 to the University of Rochester’s 870 first-place score. King awaits a decision from the NCAA committee about potential individual qualification for the NCAA tournament.
Saints Softball enters the playoffs off a three-game win streak, including a double-header of victories over Skidmore on Saturday during senior night. They let up one run while scoring eight against Skidmore. Senior Meredith Rose batted in the winning run in the first game.
Saints Baseball went 2-1 in three matchups over the weekend vs Clarkson, including an 8-1 win on Saturday for their senior night. Their next two games are also against Clarkson during the coming weekend, as they look to carry this weekend’s momentum into the Liberty League Crossover series.
Women’s Lacrosse won their last two regular-season games, including a 14-7 win on senior day over RIT. They concluded their season on Tuesday with a loss to highly-ranked William-Smith.
Men’s Lacrosse enters the Liberty League tournament as the second seed, sitting at 14-2 overall and 6-1 in Liberty League matchups. Their only loss came at the hands of RIT, who made it to the semifinals of last year’s NCAA tournament.
Men’s and Women’s Track and Field head to the Liberty League championships at RPI, taking place this Friday and Saturday. Each team has numerous top-ranked competitors, including several top-three or league-leading marks.
Women’s Tennis will face Union College onFriday in the first round of the Liberty League tournament, coming off a two- match winning streak. They concluded their regular season with a 7-2 win on senior day.
Men’s Tennis will face off against Hobart on Friday as well, who are ranked second in the league. They look to put their season win percentage above .500 as they currently sit at 4-4 in league play.
After a commanding win for the Saints 1V8 vs RIT on Saturday, the men’s rowing team moves towards their Liberty League championship races on Friday in Saratoga Springs.
The women’s 2V8 also took a win vs. RIT and is heading to Saratoga Springs for their championship.
