Field Hockey
On September 7, the day St. Lawrence University Saints field hockey celebrated the 50th year anniversary of the team, the Saints beat the Oswego State Lakers 4-1 in front of a crowd of alumni.
The Lakers started off the game with an early goal, and led 1-0 at the end of the first quarter.
However, it was all St. Lawrence from there, with the saints scoring four unanswered goals. Caroline Hamilton ’26 made it 1-1 in the second, and the Maddy Shaw ’27 scored to give the Saints a 2-1 lead.
From there, Charlotte Lehr ’28 and Maja Helmer’ 26 added second half goals to add to the lead, and the game ended 4-1.
Men’s Soccer
Last weekend, the men’s soccer team won the Mayor’s Cup for the first time since 2018. In their first game of the tournament, the Saints tied SUNY Oneonta 1-1 on a game-tying penalty kick goal from Henry Brown ’27.
Their next game was a resounding 4-0 victory over Hartwick. The Saints scored two goals in each half, with Brown and Ryan Campbell ’26 scoring in the first half, and Brown and Nicholas Petrone ’27 scoring in the second.
This result, along withe SUNY Oneonta and Hobart tying 1-1 in other game of the tournament, gave the Saints the Mayor’s cup victory.
Women’s Soccer
The women’s soccer team notched a key 1-0 win over SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday to bring the Saints’ record to 2-2-0.
Zoe Rogan ’27 scored the only goal of the game in the 28th minute. She got the ball outside the box and launched the ball with her left foot past the outstretched hands of the opposing keeper.
In the rest of the game, the defense held strong to shut out the Knights. Darcie McDonough ’25 played great for the Saints at goalie, getting her first career clean sheet. McDonough also tallied two saves in the victory.
Men’s Tennis
Last Sunday, both Saints men’s tennis doubles teams made it to the semifinals of the St. Lawrence University Fall Classic.
Edvin Strandberg ’25 and John Hill-Edgar ’25 beat two Hamilton players in the quarterfinals, winning 7-6 (7-3) in a close match. In the semifinals, they lost 6-1.
Jake David ’27 and Brodeick Pinto ’25 also won a close quarterfinal match, this one by the score of 7-6 (7-2). They then lost in the semifinals by a score of 6-3.
St. Lawrence will play their next match’s in the Union Invitational this weekend.
Women’s Tennis
The women’s tennis team picked up victories in four brackets at the Union Invitational last weekend. Yvette Karera ’27 won the B draw, winning the final 2-6, 6-1, (0-4). Karera and her sister Ariane Karera ’27 won the A doublesdraw.
In the D singles draw, Sarah Oldland won the bracket in a dominant 8-1 win. The B doubles draw was the fourth and final win for the Saints, as Ellie Fritz ’27 and Elisa Luri ’28 won an 8-4 final over a team from New Paltz.
The Saints are back home this weekend and host the St. Lawrence University Invitational.
