Athlete of the Week: Jack Gray (2023, Golf, Sudbury MA)
When did you start golfing?
I started playing golf my summer going into 8th grade. There was a junior clinic going on at my local golf course and my neighbor convinced me to go with him. This was one of the best decisions I have ever made as I ended up loving the game.
Why St. Lawrence to continue your athletic career?
For me St. Lawrence was the perfect school for me to continue playing golf while at the same time getting a great education and school atmosphere. Our coaches, Mary, and Sid, provide us with all the resources and support we need to grow both on and off the golf course, which is very valuable.
What’s your best advice for beginner golfers?
My best advice for beginner golfers would be to be patient and cherish the good shots. We all hit bad shots, even the professionals, so just stick with it and eventually you will start to see real improvement in your game.
How has the golf team been practicing with the COVID restrictions?
Luckily for us golf is one of the few sports in which you do not need to come in contact with other players. We have been doing a lot of short game and full swing practices in smaller groups and have been doing a lot of in team competition to give us something to play for.
What’s been your favorite part about St. Lawrence?
My favorite part of St. Lawrence is the community. All the students and faculty at this school are so friendly and always there for support if you need it. The school has also helped me develop some tight bonds and friendships that I would not have without it.
Who’s been your favorite person on the team to golf with?
This is a tough question as I love playing golf with all the guys on the team. However, I have played a lot of rounds with Bryan McLennan so I might have to give him the nod on this one.
