Saints Sports Teams of the Week: Women’s Swimming and Men’s Basketball

The St. Lawrence Women’s Swimming and Diving Team and the Men’s Basketball team have both been notching some outstanding performances in their recent competitions.  

At their home meet this past Saturday at the Frank and Lee Augsbury Swimming Pool, the Women’s Swimming and Diving Team took on Saint Michael’s College and Wells College. They soundly defeated both of these opponents, beating Saint Michaels by a score of 156-106 and Wells by a score of 212-12.  

The main story from this competition is the two pool records the Saints set. Maggie Wenger ’24 set the record in the 100 free style, swimming a very impressive time of 53.46. She swam in the qualifying heat and later won the event in the final. The Saints 800 free relay team of Wegner, Lulu Rauch ’25, Katie Taberski ’25, and Laura Bolduc ’24 also set a pool record with an outstanding time of 8:11.31.   

Wegner had a hat trick on the day with three overall wins, as she also won the 200 free with a time of 1:56.10. Adeline Ziobro ’24 had three wins as well, finishing in first place in the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:04.31, the 200 back with a 2:19.01 time, and also being on a first-place relay team. Mick Tesluk ’24 won the 50 free with a time of 26.03, and Amelia Stacy won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:22.31.  

The Saints will travel to Middlebury, Vermont, on Friday, Feb. 2 and Saturday, Feb. 3 for the Middlebury Invitational.  

Moving on to Men’s Basketball, they have a stellar 14-4 overall record and are currently on an eight-game winning streak. They have also defended home court, as they are currently undefeated at Burkman Gymnasium with a 9-0 record there.   

During their eight-game and counting win streak, the Saints haven’t just been winning, they’ve been winning by a lot. They have won six of the eight by 15 or more points and beat Bard on Jan. 26 by 11 points.   

Their one close game during this streak was an exciting and nail-biting 73-72 win over the rival Clarkson Golden Knights. In this game, they trailed by one point in the final seconds, and a Trey Syroka ’24 layup with 2.5 seconds left won it for the Saints to keep their win streak alive. In their most recent game, the Saints beat Vassar 54-37, flexing their defensive prowess by holding the Brewers to a season-low in points.  

On the season, Adam Dudzinski ’26 has spearheaded the Saints’ offensive attack, leading the team in points per game with an average of 15.0. Andrew Cowan ’25 has provided a strong presence down low for the Saints, averaging 7.9 points per game to go along with 8.1 rebounds and 2.3 blocks, leading the team in both rebounds and blocks.  

Next up, the Saints will travel to Rochester, New York, to take on the RIT Tigers on Friday, February 2nd at 7:30.
