The Bills have struggled in recent years against the Jaguars, losing twice to them in the last three seasons. In 2023, they lost 25-20 in London, and back in 2021 they suffered an ugly 9-6 loss in Jacksonville. Interestingly, both of these losses happened after the Bills had achieved big wins over the Dolphins and seemed like contenders.
This season, as the Bills were 2-0 heading into this game and had just beaten, you guessed it, the Dolphins, this was a trap game with a capital T. Many Bills fans, myself included, were worried about another loss by the same old Bills to these pesky Jaguars.
This team, however, was not the same old Bills, and as the final seconds of the first half ticked away, it was clear this was not going to be trap game. Superstar quarterback Josh Allen threw for four touchdown passes to go along with 247 yards passing in the first half alone, put on a clinic and is now the clear favorite to win NFL MVP. The Bills offense spread the ball around, with Allen completing passes to nine different receivers.
The scoring started with James Cook running for a six-yard touchdown, and Allen added a first quarter touchdown pass to tight end Dalton Kincaid. The second quarter was more of the same for the Bills electric offense. After a Jaguars field goal to cut the lead to ten at 13-3, Allen threw a 24-yard touchdown to rookie wide receiver Keon Coleman for his first career touchdown. Safety Damar Hamlin, who two seasons ago collapsed on Monday Night Football and almost died, picked off Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence on the next drive, much to the delight of the Bills hyped crowd. On the following two Bills drives, Allen found Khalil Shakir and Ty Johnson for two more touchdowns, and the game went into halftime with the Bills up 34-3.
In the second half the Bills cruised, with Allen only having to throw two passes and getting some extra rest with Mitch Trubisky replacing him in the fourth quarter. The game ended with the Bills winning 47-10, as the Jaguars scored a third quarter touchdown and the Bills added two field goals and a touchdown.
With the win, the Bills are off to a 3-0 start, averaging an impressive 38.33 points per game and only giving up an average of 16. They are tied with the Steelers and rival Kansas City Chiefs for first place in the AFC, and are most definitely Super Bowl contenders. Next week, they will travel to Baltimore and take on Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday Night Football with a chance to move to 4-0 for the first time since 2020 and only the third time since 1992.
