As St. Lawrence University athletics enters the heart of the busy spring sports season, numerous teams have been putting together some outstanding performances that I’ll highlight in this article.

First off, the Saints Riding team achieved the Zone Reserve Champion honors at the 2024 IHSA Zone II Finals last Saturday in Brookville, New York, which qualified them for IHSA Nationals.

Harper Eskey ’24 was the Zone II champion in the Cacchione Cup, Sophia Wirtz ’27 earned first place in the Intermediate Flat, and Lainey Rockacy ’27 was first place in the Limit Flat. The IHSA Nationals will take place from May 1 through May 5 in Mill Spring, North Carolina.

Moving on, St. Lawrence Men’s Lacrosse has had an impressive season thus far, currently having an 11-1 record with four regular season games left to play before the postseason. The Saints jumped to a #4 national ranking after an 11-0 start, with wins over three highly ranked teams in #11 York College of Pennsylvania, #5 Christopher Newport University, and #8 Union College. While the Saints did have their first loss of the season, a 13-7 defeat at the hands of #18 Middlebury College, they are still undefeated at home at 5-0 and in the Liberty League at 3-0.

Judge Murphy ’24 and Ben Hutchinson ’24 have led the Saint’s offensive attack, with Murphy scoring 40 goals and notching 22 assists for 62 points and Hutchingson netting 29 goals and dishing out 20 assists for 49 points.

Michael Marinello ’25 has been a steady presence in goal for St. Lawrence, only giving up 82 total goals on the season and tallying 138 saves, including a career-high 24 in the game against Middlebury.

The Saints finish their regular season with four Liberty League games, with the last two of those being against the top three nationally ranked teams. On Saturday, April 20th, they will host #3 RIT on Senior Day, and on Saturday, April 27th, they will travel to Troy, New York, to take on undefeated #2 RPI.

Lastly, the St. Lawrence Men’s and Women’s Track and Field teams performed well at the Utica Pioneer Spring Invite.

On the Men’s side, the Saints trio of Zack Jaworski ’25, Nick Lyndaker ’26, and Michael Skutt ’24 all won their events. Jaworski won the hammer throw with a personal-best 47.44 throw, Lyndaker won the 800m in 1:58.72, and Skutt won the 5000 in a time of 15:05.50. The Saints men finished the meet in second overall with a score of 103.5 points.

On the Women’s side, Allison Sibold ’24 raced for the first time since her second-placed finish at the Indoor Track and Field National Championships in the mile, winning the 800m at this meet in a time of 2:18.17. Emma Palumbo ’25 finished in second place in the 1500m for the Saints, running a time of 4:57.04. The St. Lawrence women finished the meet in fifth place overall with 61 total points. Many St.Lawrence Spring sports teams will be in action this upcoming weekend and through the rest of the semester, so if you’re free, come out to support the Saints!
