Winter Sports have started regular season competition and many teams are off to a successful start.

Men’s Basketball has opened their season undefeated, with wins over Alfred State College, Alfred University, SUNY (State University of New York) Plattsburgh, and SUNY Potsdam. Junior guard William Englehardt has averaged 19 points per game, with his career-high in their opener against Alfred State College. Junior forward Trent Adamson has posted three double-doubles for the season.

Following along their stride, the women’s basketball team has also opened their season undefeated, with a record of 5-0. Most recently, they had victories over Williams College and Hamilton College at the Morin Memorial Tournament at Williams College in Williamstown, MA. According to the Saints press release, Senior point guard Dylan Watkiss had a career-high 29 points with eight three-pointers to lead the Saints past the Continentals of Hamilton. Senior forward Katie Frederick has recorded four double doubles this season.

Senior guard Erin Kumler said one of the most crucial parts to their success is their depth.

“We have so many talented young players and transfers that add our seven returning upperclassmen,” Kumler said. “We are certainly contenders for a league title if we keep working the way that we have been and keep improving.”

Kumler said their practice culture has been competitive and they make each other better each day.

“This season is definitely the most exciting one we’ve had since I’ve been here,” she said.

Both the men’s and women’s teams travel south this weekend for their first Liberty League competition against Union and Skidmore College.

Men’s Hockey had an ECAC (Eastern College Athletic Conference) victory over Princeton University last Friday. They have had three losses to follow—one conference loss against Quinnipiac.

Women’s Hockey tied ECAC matchup and number nine ranked Yale University and beat Brown University 2-1. They tallied another win against Rochester Institute of Technology on Tuesday, Nov. 23. They then traveled to Washington, D.C., and faced number two ranked Ohio State and number six ranked Minnesota Duluth. They lost 2-5 and 3-4, respectively.

Men’s and Women’s Squash both had victories on the road over Haverford, winning 8-1 and 9-0 respectively. The men faced Western University at home on Saturday and lost 3-6, and both teams faced Middlebury on Sunday. The men’s team once again had an 8-1 victory, and the women fell 3-6. They both face Colgate this Saturday in Hamilton, NY.
