While most of the student body at St. Lawrence was home for mid-semester break, the fall athletes were playing in their ninth week of competition.
Women’s Volleyball had a victory over Plattsburgh State at Plattsburg on Thursday night. On Saturday, they traveled to Hamilton College in Clinton, New York, where they lost their first match against Wesleyan College and won their second match against Hamilton. According to the Saints Athletics Press Release, Natalie Piper earned Liberty League performer of the week and recorded 66 kills during the weekend.
Women’s Soccer split the weekend, with a victory over Bard College and a loss to Vassar College. First-year Emma Casey scored both goals in the Bard game for the Saints.
Men’s Soccer had the same result, with a win over Bard and a loss to Vassar on the road. Junior Marvin Sibanda and Sophomore Michael McDougal each scored a goal, respectively for the saints during the Bard game.
“We had confidence throughout the whole Bard game,” McDougal said. “We scored two goals and then Bard scored in a late minute of the second half and the momentum totally changed. It was good to finish with three points heading into a big game the next day.”
Women’s Hockey lost both of their games against Clarkson this weekend, with a score of 1-2 on Friday night at Clarkson and 1-4 on Saturday night at Appleton Arena.
Men’s Hockey also lost on the road at Rochester Institute of Technology, with a score of 1-2 on Saturday. Junior Jordan Steinmetz scored the lone goal for the Saints, which was his first goal of the season.
Football lost to nationally ranked Ithaca College on Saturday, with a score of 0-17.
Field Hockey had two crucial victories this weekend, with wins over William Smith College on Friday and University of Rochester on Sunday. Coach Fran Grembowicz had her 200th career win with the victory over William Smith on Friday. The Sunday game went into double overtime for the saints, with first-year Suzie L’Hommedieu scoring the golden goal for the saints.
Lastly, the Women’s and Men’s Cross-Country teams both placed 13th out of nearly 30 teams at the Connecticut College Pre-Mid East Regional race on Saturday. According to a press release, the Saints’ top runner was first-year Alli Sibold who finished in 31st place. The men were led by first-year Timothy Boyce, who placed 50th.
Many fall teams will be clinching playoff spots during the next week of competition.
