This past weekend, the St. Lawrence campus community celebrated senior nights and playoff berths for several winter sports.

Starting in Burkman Gymnasium, both men’s and women’s basketball celebrate their senior nights over the weekend. The women’s team celebrated their six seniors: Ava McCann, Katie Frederick, Erin Kumler, Gunnhildur Atladottir, Dylan Watkiss and Hannah Schwoebel. They lost to Union College 54-42 for their last regular season game. They entered playoffs as the number three seed and faced Skidmore College on Tuesday night. They clinched their spot in the semifinals in a thrilling overtime win, outlasting the Thoroughbreds 64-60. McCann and Frederick each contributed 13 points for the Saints.

Frederick cemented the game for the Scarlet and Brown with two free throws with three seconds left.

“That’s what you practice for,” Frederick said. “You don’t practice to win by 30. You practice to win by two in the last seconds of a game.”

The women are moving on the Liberty League semifinals against Vassar College on Saturday at Ithaca College.

The men’s basketball team also played Union College for their senior night and were victorious 81-62. They celebrated their lone senior, Luke Hicks, who scored 12 points for the Saints that evening.
