THN Launches Sports Podcast “ODWired”

0

A new sports podcast is coming to the St. Lawrence campus. Hosted by myself, Will Chalfant, The Hill News brings you ODWired. Given the state-of-the art podcasting equipment in the Owen D. Young library that will be used to produce this podcast, it seemed fitting to incorporate the building into the name of the show.

On ODWired, I will look at sports globally, nationally, and right out our front door in Canton. I’ll have athletes wired into the equipment for sit-down discussions about current and upcoming seasons. I’ll also have campus sports fans on as guests to share their thoughts on both professional and college sports. I want to hear from the students of St. Lawrence, and I want to give the campus something to talk about. There are few things better than a lengthy debate about an obscure player’s role on an average team. I’m here to get the ball rolling.

Regarding my own relationship to sports, my biases will unapologetically lie with the New York Knicks, the Connecticut Sun and the Boston Red Sox along with UConn basketball. With football, I just hope my fantasy team does well.

On episode one, I’ll be giving a bit of an NFL season preview. Will the Chiefs complete the 3-peat? Will the additions of Caleb Williams and Keenan Allen result in success for the Bears? Will Jordan Love live up to his title as the highest paid player ever? For the fantasy football enjoyers, I’ll also give my predictions for who I think will boom and who I think will bust.

I give listeners permission to blame me if my advice costs you thousands of dollars. I’ll also be doing a WNBA and MLB check-in. With the calendar turning to September, magic numbers and home  court advantage are of the utmost importance in each league. A Saints weekend in review will also be in order with fall seasons kicking off.

I’m looking to have a Yik-Yak segment of the show. I’ll ask for hot takes on Yik-Yak and it will be up to the student body to give their two cents. Yik-Yak will allow listeners to engage with the show without revealing their identity. This will grant them the liberty to come through with some egregious takes. I look forward to dissecting these.

Episodes will be released weekly! The structure will ebb and flow as the weeks pass because with each week comes a new story and a new line of topics to discuss.
