How long have you been on a track team?
I’ve been throwing since sophomore year in high school.
How did you get into the sport?
At the time, I just wanted to get in shape for football, but quickly fell in love with the atmosphere.
What made you want to join the team at SLU?
I finished my high school career on a great note and wanted to continue the progress into college. Also, after talking with the previous throwing coach, Chase Thomson, I knew I wanted to throw because we had an instant connection.
What has been your favorite experience on the team so far?
It’d have to be seeing Nickie V and Brandon getting some killer times in the mile, then throwing right after and hitting a big PR at leagues and not waiting for my mark because I wanted to celebrate with them.
What makes SLU’s cross country/track team so unique?
I’d say the atmosphere being so relaxed and friendly, but at the same time intense. We all want to see each other better ourselves and that drives us to work really hard.
What is your competition/practice schedule like?
Ah, I mean we usually practice during the week and have meets on Saturdays. This year it’s nice to have a few meets before the winter break to shake off the rust.
Do you have any pre-competition rituals?
I just kind of sink back into my music and don’t talk to anyone. I’m usually very intense and focused on meet days.
What do you do to celebrate a win?
Keep working. Celebrations are short lived and it’s always on to the next one building our way to leagues. It’s a long road and because we are such a small team we always have to be focusing on the next one.
Who would you say is your biggest fan?
My mother.
Anything else you want to add?
I’m very excited to see what our squad brings to the table and to exceed our previous placement in outdoor leagues this winter.
