Upcoming 2018 Ryder Cup United States’ Prospects
The 2018 Ryder Cup will be played from September 28 to September 30 this year. It will take place in the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines suburb of France at the Le Golf National, Albatros Course. It will feature two teams of 12 players each representing the United States and Europe respectively, playing various formats of golf to determine which region has the best pro golfers.
This is the 42nd year of the Ryder Cup, and fans are just as excited as ever to watch the tournament, especially with this year’s return of Tiger Woods.
On team U.S.A., Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Patrick Reed, Webb Simpson, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, and Bubba Watson qualified for the team with captain’s picks of Bryson DeChambeau, Tony Finau, Phil Mickelson, and Tiger Woods. This year, Jim Furyk is the Captain, with Vice-Captains of David Duval, Zach Johnson, Matt Kuchar, Davis Love III, and Steve Stricker.
On team Europe, Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrell Hatton, Rory McIlroy, Francesco Molinari, Alex Noren, Thorbjorn Olesen, Jon Rahm, and Justin Rose qualified for the team with captain’s picks of Paul Casey, Sergio Garcia, Ian Poulter, and Henrik Stenson. This year, Thomas Bjorn is the Captain with Vice-Captains of Luke Donald, Padraig Harrington, Robert Karlsson, Graeme McDowell, and Lee Westwood.
Fans across Europe and the United States will be excited to see some of their favorite players compete for their homelands. Fans on the United States’ side are especially looking forward to watching Tiger Woods. The 79-time PGA Tour tournament champion came back to the sport earlier this year after a multi-season hiatus due to a back injury.
After being back only a short time, Woods has had some impressive feats, including finishing in second place on his own in the 2018 PGA Championship. He draws enormous crowds every time he plays and seems to inject an enthusiasm into the game that reignites the passion people all over the world have for the game of golf. Although Woods’ performance in team events has not always been his strength, he will almost certainly be a boost to the ratings for every second he is on the screen.
Both teams boast some incredibly talented players, and no one knows how the tournament will play out. No matter what the result, the 2018 Ryder Cup should excite golf fans and other lovers of the game from all over the world. It truly is a celebration of golf.
