On Sunday, Sept. 23, the 2018 FedEx Cup was concluded with the final day of the 2018 Tour Championship. The FedEx Cup is a year-long competition between golfers on the PGA Tour that involves earning points based on their performances in each tournament they play in.
This year, Justin Rose won the FedEx Cup after an extremely impressive season. However, this was not the big story on Sunday.
After more than five years (1876 days to be exact), Tiger Woods once again won on the PGA Tour. After maintaining the lead through the whole week, Woods won the Tour Championship at East Lake by two strokes at 11 under par.
His amazing perfomrance and dedication to golf is extremely impressive and, therefore, does not deserve to be overlooked.
He shot 65 in the first round, 68 in the second round, 65 in the third round and 71 in the final round.
This win marks Tiger Wood’s 80th win on tour, which puts him two only wins away from reaching Sam Snead’s record of having the most tournament wins of any player in the history of the PGA Tour.
Woods seems to be within arms reach of continuing to make history by possibly reaching Snead’s record within the near future.
Both Woods and fans alike were ecstatic to see one of the greatest players if not the greatest player in the history of golf and potentially all of athletics make such a dominant comeback in a field of the top 30 golfers of the PGA Tour.
Woods had to overcome long hiatuses from the game of golf and many back surgeries these past five years, and many golf fans were not sure he’d ever be competitive in a tournament again.
His unquestionable passion and drive to win lead him through the competition on Sunday. His amazingly high level of resilince also helped him out over the weekend.
That all changed with the swarm of fans following Woods to the 18 green on Sunday.
It was a spectacle in golf that can only be brought about by one man, and it showcased the return of the greatest golfer of all time.
Both Woods and fans alike are looking forward to the future after his amazing performance.
