Saints Squash Teams Battle in Up and Down Season

This past week the St. Lawrence men’s & women’s squash teams welcomed their first home match against Hamilton College with a 6-3 win for the Saints and a loss for the Women’s team with a 5-4 result. While competition was up the roof, the men’s team was able to clinch its third victory of the season after a tough season.

However, the men’s top four players were able to seize their victories in three games, while Aran Thawani ’20 won in five games after dropping the first two 6-11 and 7-11.

Several players on both teams received awards that reflected their individual results as well as the commitment and the incredible hard work that they have put towards the St. Lawrence squash program. In addition, Karim Ibrahim ‘20 earned the Liberty League performer of the week title as he marched with a 3-0 win against Dickinson as well as beating F&M’s senior Sanjay Jeeva 3-2 and GW’s Freshman Moustafa Montaser 3-2. Furthermore, Inwoo Lee ‘23 won each of his matches in three games against Dickinson; then he captured another victory against F&M’s Matthew Durkam followed by a 3-0 win over GW’s Inaki DeLarrauri.

On the women’s team, Makyla Kelley ‘22 was named Liberty League performer of the week as she marched through her matches against Dickinson and Franklin & Marshall each 3-1 to start the second part of the season. In addition, Sanna Koivumaki ‘22 was also named the Liberty League women’s squash performer of the week as she came on top after winning her match over Hamilton’s Hope Worcester in three games.

To end the season, the Saints (both men’s & women’s teams) will be having on last home match on Monday February 3 against Colby College at the Robie Squash Center, and they will be waiting for your support!
