Trumpism Rages on Without Trump
It appears more and more reminiscent that the former President is fading away as the spotlight gathers on another. Former President Trump may be fading, but Trumpism itself continues.
Recently, Governor Desantis has become the strong man for this movement garnering conservative victories on Flordia’s abortion law, scoring points with conservative Evangelicals and Catholics. The governor is solidifying himself within the religious base of the Republican party.
Continuing this solidification, DeSantis victory over Mickey Mouse earlier in the spring catapulted him straight into the culture wars. One can perhaps view DeSantis as a less toxic Trump, although not nearly as funny.
This may in fact be De Santis hour and Trump realizes this possibility.
The idea that Trump is a necessity for Trumpism is foolish thinking. Years ago, more than two decades ago, another Trump-like figure Patrick Buchanan, campaigned on Trumpism without Trump.
Pitchfork Pat, they called him pledged to build a fence on the American border, restore American culture, declaring a “culture war” in his famous 1992 RNC convention speech.
Despite Buchanan’s Trump like rhetoric, the founder of crossfire and syndicated columnist failed to win the Presidency.
However, Buchanan may have failed, but his ideas did not.
Trumpism is but a more course version of Buchanan’s former platform. The fall of Buchanan and the rise of Trump illustrates how the same ideology can fluctuate between figures. After all, Trump all but stole Buchanan’s 1992 and 1996, platform selling it with his abrasive personality and celebrity apprentice fame.
As the smoke fades from the Trump administration, the skeletons seem to grow every more increasingly his aura’s fading. Trump understands that Buchanan’s fate may in fact become his own. For Ronald De Santis the hour is coming.
With Trump booged down in investigation after Republicans searching for a new candidate with the healthy dose of Trumpism, without the skeletons. Flordia’s Governor may yet be the nominee, or even the Forty Seventh President of these United States.
