Purple Week Returns

0

Purple Week begins this Monday. Put on by the Advocates, Purple Week raises awareness for domestic violence on campus.

There are also numerous activities to promote self care throughout the week, due to the heavy events included each year.

Events this year include rape kit care packages, a watch party with the Powerhouse, frisbee with SLU’s ultimate team, and Empower Hour Yoga with Planned Parenthood Generation Action.

The watch party collaboration with the Powerhouse will view the Netflix documentary “Athlete A”, which follows U.S. gymnasts who are survivors of an abusive team doctor. It also looks at the following legal fight.

A tradition during Purple Week is Take Back the Night, hosted by the Dub. This event occurs twice a year and is a night where survivors share their stories in the chapel. Take Back the Night happens at college campuses across the country to support and empower survivors.

Due to COVID, this year’s Take Back the Night will look a little different. Only 50 people will be allowed in the chapel at a time, so there will be two sessions of speakers. The first will begin at 7 p.m. and the second at 8 p.m.

Both will last about 45 minutes.

To sign up, find the Google link in the Dub’s Instagram bio: @sludub.
