Phase 3: Cross Residence Hall Visitation Updates

In a campus wide email sent out on Tuesday Night, Hagi Bradely,  Vice President and Dean of Student, provided updates to cross-residential visitation which is a part of Phase 3 of the Laurentian Pact. Phase 3 started on Thursday, October 22.

After determining that the University could move into Phase 3 (which allows for cross-residence hall visitation), the start date and time was set to 5:00 pm and lasts until Sunday at noon.

“Phase 3 maintains the guidelines related to face-covering and social distancing requirements,” Bradley said in the email.

Bradley also reminded students that the University has the right at any time to revert to an earlier phase.

Reagan Collier-Hogan, Class of ‘22, said she thinks it gives students more freedom while also maintaining safe COVID-19 guidelines.

“I think we have created a good bubble up here,” she said. “If we remain smart and diligent in our efforts, we can still make the best of our time at SLU.”

Brenden Bready, Class of ‘22 and a Community Assistant in Gaines Residence Hall, said up to this point, his residence have been mixed in terms of following the pact.

“About 75% of them are very good about following it, while the other 25% have had problems all year,” Bready said.

He suggested that students continue to follow the rules of the pact as we enter Phase 3.

“With the new phase we really do have so much freedom to see people,” he said, “so, let’s just not abuse it and keep everyone safe.”

Bready said he is worried about mask policy when people enter other’s dorms.

“It’s hard to believe that behind closed doors, all students will still wear their masks around friends not in their family unit,” said Bready.

He said he is personally excited to visit other dorms.

“I haven’t been able to see many of my friends’ rooms yet, so this is amazing that I’ll finally be able to,” he said.

He said he hopes we keep as few of cases as possible so we are here for the rest of the semester.

Dean Bradley expressed the same sentiment in his campus wide email, when he said,  “this is our community and as Laurentians, we have a responsibility to protect each other.”
