Holiday Dinner Marks Return to Tradition

The Wednesday before thanksgiving, the Outing Club hosted a holiday dinner for the greater Canton community at the Canton United Methodist Church.  This is the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic that the OC has hosted a holiday dinner. Previously the dinner had been a longstanding tradition.

The meal was made by Campus Kitchens Project and the OC. Campus Kitchens cooked 2 turkeys, and the church volunteers cooked three more. In addition to the turkeys volunteers made a wide variety of classic thanksgiving dishes including, stuffing, mashed potatoes, maccaroni and cheese and green beans.

The partnership with the Canton United Methodist Church was natural for the OC since the church gives out meals each week to the Canton community. They serve around 140 meals each week, which are delivered to the local senior living residence and picked up from the church. The holiday dinner was the first time since the church had last hosted the holiday dinner with the OC that a meal had been served in person.

The return of the holiday dinner was spearheaded by Skylar White ’26, who part of the OC. “I thought it would be a good way to give back to the greater canton community and not just students,” said White. White thought that the holiday dinner benefitted both volunteers and those enjoying the meal. “I thought it was a really wholesome fun tradition that benefits everyone.”
