What prompted you to run for student delegate?
I was prompted to run for student delegate because throughout my time on Thelmo each semester at St. Lawrence I have seen how important it is to represent the students‘ voices in these big picture conversations. Having my experience with Thelmo and attending these meetings in the past I am confident I can harness this to ensure all voices at St. Lawrence are present at the table.
What issues on campus are you concerned with?
The issues on campus I am most concerned with are in regards to the health center and student representation. Throughout my time at St. Lawrence and having utilized the health and counseling center I have heard time and time again from peers that the lacking of a counselor of color or minority doesn’t make them feel heard. Each student should have s resource that validated their experience and this is what I am to accomplish in tandem with the boards’ goals.
What will you do if elected?
If elected my first plan is to reach out to each club and organization on campus I can to understand what challenges they face on campus and how the Board of Trustees can become aware of these issues. I also will communicate with the counseling center and push for the hiring of a counselor of color and/or identifying as a minority that meets students’ needs on campus. Finally, I will ensure the planning, building and construction of Dean Eaton and our new hockey arena don’t interfere with student life but take into consideration our needs and requirement.
