The excitement was tangible when Associated for Campus Entertainment (ACE) announced the artists for this year’s Fall Fest. B.o.B. promises powerful rap and rock music, while Evolfo will bring a soulful rock sound. ACE announced through their Facebook event that doors will open at 5 p.m. on Friday the 21, and the concert will run from 6 to 9 p.m..
ACE President Blair Champion is proud to bring B.o.B. and Evolfo to St. Lawrence, and says the ACE concert chairs have been hard at work all summer preparing for Fall Fest. “I’m glad that we were able to get an artist a lot of people have heard of, which can be a rare thing at a school as small as St. Lawrence,” Champion said. “It’s also great to have Evolfo to give everyone more variety in the music they would like to hear at Fall Fest. Hopefully more people can feel included in the event.”
Rapper B.o.B. described his own music as “experimental” in an interview with The Guardian. He strives to break “popular music formulas” with his music, which draws inspiration from many different genres, including alternative and rock. “I can’t conform, its not in my nature,” he said.
B.o.B. was born in 1988 and grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. He was drawn to rapping at a young age and began to gain recognition in his 20s with songs like “Airplanes”, “So Good”, and “Nothin’ On You”. He often collaborated with artists such as 2 Chainz, Eminem and Bruno Mars.
Also coming to Canton for Fall Fest is Brooklyn band Evolfo, who describe themselves as a garage soul rock band. In an interview with AXS, the band describes how the seven members came together in Boston in 2011. Originally formed to play parties and write songs, the band then moved to Brooklyn and began appearing at music festivals, most recently the Caravan Music Festival.
Lead Singer Matt Gibbs says his personal inspiration is music legend David Bowie, especially when it comes to putting on an energetic show. Evolfo released an EP, “Last of the Acid Cowboys,” in 2016, followed by a tour on the west coast. The band continued to tour in 2017 during the full album release, and will likely play many of its songs at Fall Fest on Friday.
Fall Fest will also feature student opener D.J. Denzo, who won the Java Battle of the Openers on Wednesday. While there is no alcohol allowed in the venue, ACE hopes that everyone will have a good time and stay safe. Tickets are $10, and the concert will take place on the intramural fields behind the science quad.
