The Class of 2021 Class Council Sells T-Shirts to Celebrate their Time at SLU

To beat senior blues, the Class of 2021 Council is selling t-shirts for the class to celebrate their time at SLU. The council felt it was important to have the shirts even though The Hoot has been closed throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and usual senior class events such as Hundredth Night were unable to happen.

The shirts are available online, and the link is available on the class council’s Instagram: @stlawrence2021. There are Tuesday Blues design, as well as cluck farkson shirts with a new slogan to fit the current situation. Anything bought in the store can be sent to campus for pickup or shipped off-campus.

The link to the store is stores.inksoft.com/slu_21.

Makenna Burr ’21, treasurer of the class council, wanted the shirts to be as affordable as possible. “Its been a hard year for everyone and we wanted everyone to be able to be included in the tradition of they wanted to be.” A lot of senior class members had been requesting the shirts even despite the year’s unusual circumstances. “Even though we aren’t able to celebrate with the normal Tuesday blues at the Hoot, I think a lot of seniors wanted to honor the tradition,” Burr says.

The shirts were designed by Burr this semester. “We were all so excited to get them out as soon as possible,” she says. “I stayed up creating something I felt resembled past years shirts.” Burr had a lot of fun designing the shirts.

Amber Stickney ’21 and Erin Stickney ’24 also helped with the design, coming up with the “Fuster Cluck”. Sam Delmartino ’21 was another leader who helped with sales of the shirts. She set up the online store and communicated with the vendor.

According to 2021 Class President Cooper McCrillis, the council is currently working on senior week, even though it is still unclear what events will be allowed. “We as a class council are really getting into crunch time as we feverishly work to plan senior week based on what the Campus Safety Team and senior administration staff ends up telling us will be allowed,” he says. “We are tirelessly working to make sure that we as a senior class can have the best ending to our SLU experience as possible even as we navigate a global pandemic.”

The class council is also working on fundraising for the senior class gift, a fund to honor President Fox who is retiring at the end of this year. “It’s a big challenge on getting the word out when we can’t see everyone around the student center or Dana, which have been our major hot spots for reaching our class,” Burr says. “If students donate $10, they’ll receive a cord to wear at commencement this April, so we have a little incentive for the fundraiser.”

Students can donate to the senior gift online, the link was included in an email to the class of 2021.

Seniors who would like to get involved with the class council can join meetings every Monday at 6:30 p.m. on the Carnegie first floor. Burr also encourages anyone with questions to email an exec board member or message the Instagram.
