Join the Laurentian Singers!

The first week of classes my first year, I decided to audition for the Laurentian Singers. I was nervous but also excited about continuing my involvement in music and meeting people who loved singing just as much as I did.

Looking back on all of the decisions that I have made in my four years at St. Lawrence, this is the decision that I am most grateful for. Laurentian Singers not only provided me with an opportunity to share my love of music, but also provided me with the group of fun-loving, goofy and talented people that I now consider to be my second family.

One of the aspects of the Laurentian Singers that we always most look forward to are our tours every Spring Break. During my four years, I sang in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, had my first Philly Cheese Steak (in Philly), sang and danced with choirs in Puerto Rico, serenaded passersby in numerous grocery stores and hotels, drank piña coladas and got caught in a torrential downpour at El Yunque National Rainforest, met and sang with inspirational and curious school-aged students, sang in the U.S. Senate building, and shared my love of music with hundreds of St. Lawrence alumni.

Although I am graduating this year, I am so excited for the Laurentian Singers and the memories that they will make in San Francisco, Spring Tour 2020.

I am sure that many of you have heard the Laurentian Singers sing thus far into your St. Lawrence career.  Maybe you attended our Home Concert or saw us sing during Parents Weekend. You have likely heard us sing the school’s songs at an event or two, such as Matriculation. As a senior, I can tell you that I have sang the school songs probably a total of 1,000 times. (Don’t worry, they really do never get old.)

For those of you that may not know about the Laurentian Singers, we are a select chamber choir of 25 students from a variety of academic majors and interests.

As a graduating senior, I am so excited to be leaving the legacy to all of you. If you are are interested in joining Laurentian Singers for the 2019-2020 school year, we are holding auditions Monday, April 29 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in Griffiths 15!

Audition requirements include singing throughout your vocal range, singing a prepared solo a cappella (which can be any style except contemporary pop and is usually a verse and chorus long) and singing with a quartet (a choral excerpt of about 40 bars will be available for you to learn 30 minutes prior to your audition).

Audition sign-up sheets will be posted outside Griffiths 15 starting on April 15. We cannot wait to meet all of you and welcome the next wave of talented Laurentian Singers!
