Gunnison Chapel Bells Named as Opener for Springfest 2019

The role of a concert’s opener is severely important. They open for the act everyone is waiting for, get the crowd pumped and excited and serve as a warm up for the fun to come. Let’s be real- it basically imprints the tone of the entire concert experience. They’re often less known, but still are integral to the concert’s flow.

This was taken into consideration this year, however, it was decided that a new precedent shall be set for years to come.

With the need to showcase the university’s community and history, and with the perk of saving some money, it became all too obvious who would be put on display for the upcoming Springfest concert.

This is why, after viewing several nominees to play as openers for upcoming Springfest, it has been declared that the Gunnison Chapel Bells will be performing prior to the main act for the day. With runner-ups like “The Creaky Stairs in Herring Cole,” “Those Random Kids in The Library Who Always Tap Their Pencils Against Their Tables…Don’t They Know I Have an Exam in Two Days?” and President Fox’s quartet, the decision was very difficult, but the Chapel Bells gave too rousing of a performance to be denied the spot.

I know what you’re all thinking- the chapel bells? They only perform at 5 p.m. every day! I bear good news- they are willing to make this once-in-a-lifetime experience for us and, trust me, you don’t want to miss it.

Anyone can say that they heard the ringing as they walked through campus on a late afternoon, but you’ll be able to say that you saw them open for none other than SLU’s 2019 Springfest- which is bound to be one for the books.

There’s nothing better than awaiting a concert headliner and being graced with the sweet melodic tones that only our chapel bells can provide. With historical antiquity and a strong chime, these St. Lawrence University landmarks are bound to land at the top of the charts after their debut. They’ll be performing hits like “Happy Birthday,” but will be taking requests as always.

When asked about their opportunity, the bells chimed excitedly. They hope that their covers are dead ringers for the originals, and that their other songs can bring the hype that the headliner deserves. The bells then chimed in again, saying that after the concert, they hope that their fan base will increase, so that they get more requests for their 5 p.m. sessions on campus.

If you’re just as excited as I am to not only see the headliner, but now the opener for Springfest, make sure you grab your tickets soon! The Chapel Bells are excited to see you there!
