On April 2, 2016, the Center for Civic Engagement came together with Volunteer Services from St. Lawrence University to host our annual Kick It For A Cause event. This year, the recipient was 17-year-old high school senior Stephanie McKeel. Our event not only helped raise money for Stephanie and her family, but it also helped raise awareness on cystic fibrosis. We were able to raise over four thousand dollars to help cover travel and housing expenses. Unfortunately, Stephanie was unable to attend the event due to awaiting a double lung transplant. Gratefully, as of last week, Stephanie received the news that a potential donor was identified. That same day, Stephanie was in surgery. Thus, the next morning, Stephanie came out with two new lungs. Although she may have a long road of recovery ahead of her, Stephanie and her family are thankful for all the support they have received from across the communities.
