Hey there! Ever wonder what that humble green home is across from ODY at 70 Park? That my friend would be THE GreenHouse. Though we may not be the best looking from the outside, it’s all about what’s on the inside. Walk through the doors of this lovely theme house and you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the aroma of fresh bread in the oven, the sounds of funky music, and eleven wonderful humans.
The Green House is dedicated to sustainable, low impact living. Our mission is to spread these values to campus and the larger community. So what do we do exactly?? Well, we are so glad you asked. Every three weeks, on a Sunday evening we hold dinner sign ups. It goes a little something like this: you show up, get your name drawn, and you pick a night of the week (Monday through Thursday). You then get to come for three consecutive weeks on that day for dinner. Each night a few house members whip up an entirely vegetarian, nourishing, locally sourced meal. A majority of these veggies come from Birdsfoot farm where we volunteer for community supported agriculture (CSA). Dinners cost just $5 and are arguably better than Dana.
As if that wasn’t good enough, we also put on a number of workshops throughout the semester. These range anywhere from traveling the NoCo on a farm crawl, to making homemade natural deodorant. Basically, we like to get our hands dirty and have a fun time doing it. Some other workshops in the past have been thrift shop hauls, natural tie dying, scrunchie making, pickling, and jam making.
In the Spring, we put on a wildly fun time known as the North Country Folk Fest. We bring some pretty rad musicians, vendors, and food to campus. Additionally, in the Fall we put on Pumpkin Palooza.
